Prof. Marianne van der Steen, Phd

Founder of GSP 


Marianne van der Steen is Professor of Entrepreneurship in Healthcare and Chief Business Development Officer of MERLN Institute, the Regenerative Medicine Institute of Maastricht University, The Netherlands. Marianne is co-founder and director of the Dutch-Belgium translational & commercialization institute REGMED XB. Marianne has raised a pre-seed fund BGV-FIRST of EUR 10 million, has been granted with the Growth Fund (April 2021) of EUR 56 million.  


Her research focus is on biomedical entrepreneurship, specifically on the scaling-up of ventures. She is part-time, visiting professor at the University of California Irvine. Marianne is the founding director of the MBI Life Sciences & Health -an MBA for health entrepreneurs (2013), has designed a digital ‘MBI’ for UCI-DCE (2017); founder of GSP-the Global Scale-Up Program (since 2015) -accelerating European start-ups to scale in the United States as well as EIT Health Bridgehead US catalyzer (2020); and founder of the Global Investor Forum/GSP Capital Match connecting international entrepreneurs to investors (since 2015) in Europe (I4H-GIF) and Boston.     


Since 2006, she has been involved as founder, non-executive board member, supervisory board member, consultant, business developer and coach in life sciences start-ups and board member of several (pre) seed funds. Marianne is member of the Life Sciences and Health Advisory Board of the Netherlands. 

Greetje de Kleuver, LL.M 

Operational director of GSP

Greetje de Kleuver is the Operational Director of the Global Scale-up Program and works with national and international SME’s on their internationalisation pathways to the US. Greetje has been working in the life sciences  sector for more than 12 years now. She has been working as Senior Advisor Business Development and International within regional and national governmental organisations. 


As an expert for EIT Health Greetje assesses European ventures on their suitability to participate in EIT Health programs.


She is the Operational Director of the Global Scale-up Program. The Global Scale-up Program has been a CATalyzer for the Global Bridgehead Program since 2020. She is also an expert at EIT Health and assesses European ventures for their suitability to participate in an EIT Health program
